# Case Study: Advanced Waterproofing Solutions in Dwarka, Delhi

Ocean Non Wovens supplied and installed 18,000 SQM of Ocean [Non Woven Geotextile](https://oceangeosynthetics.com/products/geotextile-manufacturers/) (PET) 1.2 mm Thickness for a large-scale waterproofing project in Dwarka, Delhi. This case study covers what the project needed, the geotextile supplied, and the job a nonwoven geotextile does inside a waterproofing system.

## Project overview

- **Location:** Dwarka, Delhi
- **Product Supplied:** Ocean Non Woven Geotextile (PET) 1.2 mm Thickness
- **Quantity Used:** 18,000 SQM
- **Application:** Waterproofing for a large commercial infrastructure project

## Why waterproofing below ground matters

Water damages buildings and underground structures through capillary rise, hydrostatic pressure against basement walls and slabs, and dissolved salts and chemicals that attack concrete and corrode reinforcement. Effective waterproofing cuts maintenance costs and extends the life of the structure.

## Project requirements

The Dwarka project needed a durable, permeable layer within the waterproofing system that would help:

- Prevent groundwater infiltration into underground structures
- Protect against chemical attack from soil and water contaminants
- Drain water efficiently away from the structure
- Spread load without losing flexibility

## Why Ocean Non Woven Geotextile (PET) 1.2 mm Thickness

A nonwoven geotextile is not itself a waterproof layer. In a waterproofing system it sits alongside the membrane (bituminous, HDPE or similar) and does three jobs: it protects the membrane from puncture by backfill and construction traffic, it separates the membrane from the soil, and it lets water move freely to the drains so pressure does not build up against the structure.

### Water permeability and drainage

A needle-punched nonwoven is highly permeable both across its thickness and in its plane. Water passes through and is carried to the drainage system, while the fibre structure holds back fine soil particles that would otherwise clog the drains.

### Tensile strength and puncture resistance

Made from polyester (PET) fibres, the geotextile has good tensile strength and puncture resistance, so it cushions the membrane against stones in the backfill and the stresses of compaction. At 1.2 mm thickness it suits protection and separation duties under moderate loads.

### Chemical and UV resistance

Polyester resists most chemicals found in soil and groundwater and does not rot. It is less suited to strongly alkaline conditions (such as direct, prolonged contact with fresh lime or cement at high pH), where it can slowly hydrolyse. Like all geotextiles, it should be covered soon after laying rather than left exposed to sunlight.

## Implementation

1. **Surface preparation:** the subgrade was compacted and cleared of debris.
2. **Geotextile installation:** the Ocean Non Woven Geotextile (PET) 1.2 mm was laid over the prepared surface with correct alignment and overlaps.
3. **Sealing and layering:** additional waterproofing layers were applied as per project specifications.
4. **Quality inspection:** post-installation checks verified permeability, tensile strength and overall effectiveness.

## Outcome

After installation, the system showed better load distribution, which reduced soil settlement, and no leakage or water ingress was recorded.
