The geocell was used to stabilise soil and control erosion across several areas of the site. Agartala’s Light House Project is one of six model housing projects built under the Global Housing Technology Challenge of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), each demonstrating a different construction technology. Tripura gets heavy monsoon rain, so exposed earth on a large building site washes out easily and soft ground loses strength when wet. ## How a perforated geocell works Ocean HDPE Perforated [Geocell](https://oceangeosynthetics.com/products/geocells/) is a three-dimensional honeycomb of welded high-density polyethylene (HDPE) strips. It ships collapsed, is stretched open on site, pinned in place and filled with soil, sand, gravel or concrete. The cell walls confine the infill so it cannot spread sideways under load or wash away in runoff.
